Finding chicken coops plans that suit your individual needs is an interest of many farmers and individuals seeking to increase productivity and save money at the same time. Many plans featured online advise that you give each chicken at least 4.5 square feet of space.

Some chickens have specific needs that should be met, for them to live and function effectively. Websites, such as Chickenhouseplan.com, will draw special plans that accommodate your chickens’ special needs.

By visiting various web sites, you should be able to find a wide variety of design plans. Some sites also teach you how to make chicken coops using pvc pipes. Of course, with so much information and products available, it can be hard to know which coop plan is best for you.

With that in mind, you can find plans and pictures for pastured poultry pens. Within these plans, you will find a list of parts you will need to build the coop, along with instructions on how to assemble them.

While there are a number of basic chicken coops plans available, it is also important to remember that you can buy plans for higher quality coops. These plans can sell for as much as $40.00. If you’re looking for fancy chicken coops plans, buying design plans may be your best option. Plans for sale often feature fancy touches that can be added to the chicken coop.

However, before you choose chicken coops plans, it’s important to take a few things into consideration. First, you will need to look into local laws governing your property. Be sure to see if there are any space considerations you will need to look into, when selecting a chicken coop. By doing so, it will ensure that your chicken coops plans will not violate laws. Also, you will want to think about the wildlife in your area. Are there any animals that pose a threat? If so, you will need to take extra measures to ensure the safety of your chickens.

When you’re searching for chicken coops plans that match your lifestyle and personal needs, it’s important to remember that you will need to consider a number of things. However, building your own chicken coop is a great way to stretch your dollar and build a coop that you are happy with. The best thing to look for on the internet is a site that will offer all of the features that I have talked about, there are a few of these out there so keep looking until you find one that offers ‘all of the above.’

Chicken house plans must of course be designed to keep your chickens safe from predators and the brutal elements.

This means that your chicken coop must be built to keep out dogs, cats, and hawks that might harm baby chicks or eggs.

At the same time your coop should be designed so your chickens have plenty of access to outside air circulation. These feats can be easily accomplished by enclosing your chicken house and run in wire netting with a small enough mesh to keep out food stealing rats and mice.

Your chicken house needs to have a solid roof however so your chicks are protected from rain and sun. Your chicken coop should also have an enclosed area for your chickens to sleep in at night and where they can huddle when the wind blows cold.

During the day your chickens will appreciate access to the sun and outdoors. If you are not able to let your chickens roam freely in a fenced yard or field, you should design your coop to have an open area called a chicken run that is enclosed in wire netting, or you could transfer your chicks into a portable enclosure.

A portable chicken coop which is also called a chicken tractor or chicken ark, lets your chickens travel around the yard while being kept safe and secure. A chicken tractor is a small A-frame chicken house with a covered roof and wire sides. There is no bottom to this chicken coop so your chickens can scratch in the dirt and enjoy the outdoors.

In order to keep your chickens happy and healthy, design your chicken house with those points in mind rather than just thinking about ways to keep your chickens from wandering off. Build a chicken coop to keep them safe from the weather and other critters that would do them harm and add runs or let them roam in a chicken ark to get plenty of exercise through scratching and chasing bugs.

Don’t want to design your own coop? Here are some nice chicken house plans.

If you have taken an interest in raising chickens and are ready to build a coop, I have some information which I hope will be helpful in making your decision and, hopefully, save you some money as well. There are many different chicken coop designs available, depending on your needs. There are also a lot of choices for materials which can be used to build a chicken coop. PVC pipes, tarps, converted old campers, and the list goes on. Wood is the most commonly used material for building chicken coops. Depending on the size of the coop you’re planning to build, it can get expensive to buy new lumber. I’ve read that the average amount of money spent for chicken coop materials is around $300.00. I did not want to spend this much money and began thinking of different ways to cut costs but still have a functional, yet lovely coop…without spending $300.00!

After doing some research, I found some second hand stores where I could get used lumber, which was a fraction of what it would cost new. These types of stores basically get donated wood from people who are tearing down old houses, buildings etc. and are sprouting up across the U.S. These materials may be older, have a few nails or cracks etc., but are still very functional. I live in the Portland, Oregon area and the store I went to is called “The Rebuilding Center.” After talking to some of the staff there, I was told that many people have purchased supplies for chicken coops there. There are even used appliances, old tubs and sinks, light fixtures, hardware, and everything you’ll need for building a great coop. Just be prepared to pull out some nails and be creative in how you construct it since most of the wood will simply not come in the standard sizes you’ll find in the store. However, I was able to grab a few full sheets of plywood and some longer 2×4 to get by nicely. I even found some great used siding and some leftover new shingles! I would recommend checking online or in the phone book for used or recycled lumber in your area.

Once you’ve got an idea of where to get your supplies, it’s time to determine what type of plan to use for your coop. There are an endless number of chicken coop designs available. You can find a plethora of coop designs online, and either pay for the building plans or design your own creation. There are many things to consider when planning for your coop design. Some of these factors include geographical location, the number of chickens you’re planning to get, whether you live in an urban or rural setting etc. If you want just a few chickens, perhaps a small, portable “chicken tractor,” will suit your needs. If you’ve got more acreage, perhaps you’ll want a larger coop. Regardless of the size, I would strongly recommend making it a bit bigger than you need since, if you’re like me, you’ll want to buy more chickens each year.

The economy stinks, or perhaps you’ve noticed. This affects everything that everybody does. If you think it doesn’t affect your decision to build a chicken coop, take a good look at your wallet and the cost of materials these days. It’s not a pretty picture.

Okay, so just what do you need to build that chicken coop? Well, as there are many different styles, it’s hard to say “use this and use that” but for the most part, you’re going to need two by fours, concrete cinder blocks chicken wire or fence wire, insulation strips, nails, screws, screwdriver and hammer. So, what’s the cost of all this? Well, let’s break it down as cheaply as we can.

Two by fours, if you don’t want to go out chopping wood all day, depending on the quality of the wood, will run you anywhere from $15 to $25 or more. Now, you don’t want your coop to fall apart on you so I’d recommend going with a good maple for about $20. Of course that’s entirely up to you.

Insulation strips are not quite as much, thank goodness. You can pick up a package of 16 strips for about $10 or so. Again, you want to get some good insulation. Chickens do NOT like being damp and wet. They don’t mind the cold too much but some insulation is going to be required.

Cinder blocks are relatively cheap and can be picked up online for about $5 a block. I suggest going to a site like Home Depot or if you have one close to your home, take a drive over. That way you can check them out personally. I suggest getting blocks that are somewhat attractive. You do want this coop to look nice, right?

You can get 6 inch chicken wire from Craft Supplies for about $11. Depending on the size of your coop, you may need a few rolls of these. As for the rest of the stuff, nails, screws, etc…they’re negligible in cost.

A good chicken coop will probably run you a couple of hundred bucks, again depending on the size.

The way to find a chicken coop design

If you’re trying to find a good chicken coop design, There are some crucial things that you must consider when looking for a chicken coop design. Many people just jump right into the building process and end up neglecting certain aspects which actually cost them a lot of time and cash in the long run.

Here’s what you want to know.

The first thing to recollect as you go about building a chicken house is how many chickens you intend to have. You are going to want a much larger chicken house if you would like to raise 10 or more birds compared to if you only need 2 to three.

Tip# 2: Think About Your Climate

Next up, in order to build the right kind of chicken house you must think about your climate. How much rain are you going to get? What type of temperatures do you generally experience?

All of these will factor in when it comes time to choose what kind of materials you wish to use whilst building.

Tip# 3: Do you want A Mobile chicken coop design?

Third, consider whether you wish to have a mobile chicken coop. Many individuals like having the ability to move their chicken coop around with them, either for cleaning purposes or simply because they need to watch their chickens when they are within the home.

Mobile designs sometimes work best when you have a lower number of chickens because of the fact larger houses are much harder to move around.

When you build a chicken house there are a great many things you want to keep your costs low if you are on a restricted budget. It’s all about understanding what kinds of materials may be employed and then factoring in the price of building and buying those materials if necessary.

So, keep these building tips in mind. If you do some reading first before starting, you will definitely cut your total costs down.

Keeping chickens has taken off in a big way here in the UK. In my road alone I know of 3 neighbours who are building chicken coops and are looking after chickens. If you want to join this enthusiastic band of home farmers this article will help. I’m going to share three simple and very basic tips for building that perfect chicken coop. Ignore these at your own peril.

A Chicken Coop Must Keep Out The Rain

The first thing you want to do is make sure that your chicken coop is rain proof. There are materials you can use that will pull this off nicely that won’t cost you an arm and a leg. Contrary to what you might believe, chickens do NOT like the rain and the last thing that they want is for their home to be all damp and wet. If you do NOTHING else, this one tip is a must or you’re going to have some very unhappy chickens on your hand.

Make Sure It Is Big Enough

Next thing you want to do is make sure you build this thing for the long haul. What am I talking about? You might only have one or two chickens now and feel that you don’t need anything that’s too big. But then what happens when you’re suddenly surrounded by a dozen of these fine feathered friends? What then? You don’t want them to be all cramped in their home. So build for the future and not just for what’s staring you in the face this very moment.

Build a chicken Coop That Is Secure

Finally, and this may be the most important thing of all now that I’m thinking of it, you want to build this thing bullet proof. Okay, not literally but you know what I mean. You want to keep your chickens safe from evil predators, right? Well, if that’s the case, the last thing you want to do is build something that the big bad wolf can blow down with a puff. Look what happened to poor little Elmer. Okay, build this thing strong and build it to last. Some barbed wire might be a good idea as well.

Your chickens are important to you, right? So they deserve a home that they can feel safe, dry and comfortable in. The above tips will make it so that they’ll do just that.

For some great info on building chicken coops, and find out about some plans and advice on exactly how you build a chicken coop go to the building chicken coup site.

A way to find a chicken coop design

If you are trying to find a good chicken coop design, there are some significant things that you have to consider when looking for a chicken coop design. Many of us just jump right into the building process and end up neglecting certain aspects which truly cost them a lot of time and cash in the long run.

Here’s what you need to know.

Tip# 1: Always Factor In Chicken Number

The first thing to recollect as you go about building a chicken house is how many chickens you plan to have. You’re going to want a much bigger chicken house if you want to raise ten or more birds compared to if you only need 2 to three.

Making certain that the dimensions of chicken coop you select is correct is crucial otherwise your chickens are not going ot lay eggs properly.

Next up, in order to build the right kind of chicken house you want to think about your climate.

Tip# 3: Do you want A Mobile chicken coop design?

Third, consider whether you wish to have a mobile chicken coop. Many people like being able to move their chicken house around with them, either for cleaning purposes or simply because they want to watch their chickens when they are inside the home.

Mobile designs often work best when you have a lower number of chickens due to the fact larger houses are much harder to transport around.

Tip# 4: How much do you have to spend?

Finally, the 4th tip to recollect is cost. When you build a chicken house there are numerous things you can do to keep your costs low if you are on a restricted budget. It’s all about understanding what kinds of materials may be used and then taking into consideration the price of building and purchasing those materials if necessary.

So, keep these building tips in mind. If you do some reading first before beginning, you will definitely cut your total costs down.

Always wanted to protect your chickens from predators?

As mentioned earlier if you raise your own chickens in the chicken coop you’ve built, you will have free organic eggs! YAY!

Well, organic eggs taste better, and the yolks are more nutrient rich than the yolks of the eggs you buy at the store. These eggs are healthier and have 1/4 less saturated fat and 1/3 less cholesterol. Apart from fresh organic eggs if you decide to eat the chicken meat it tastes better and is chemicals free in case you eat your own raised chicken. You can build a chicken coop almost anywhere; you don’t have to live on a farm. Building chicken coops is a lot easier than you may imagine.

Chickens eat bugs in your garden that could destroy your plants. Also, they help improve soil health. There are many other reasons that make this profitable if you want to have your own chicken coop.

Building your own chicken coop may not be as easy as hammering some wood and wire mesh together if you don’t have a proper guide. You need to take into account materials, insulation, ventilation, lighting, positioning, nesting, perches, litter collection and protection from the elements and other animals when you are building a coop. Fortunately for you, there is an easy to follow guide created based on many years of experience of in poultry farming to build your own perfect chicken coop.

It doesn’t matter if you’re a master carpenter or a total beginner, If you require a big or small chicken coop, or if you have a small or big budget. Building your own chicken coop just makes economical sense too. Considering what you can build by only using an easy to follow guide and the fact that most pre-built chicken coop you buy need to be assembled anyway, an economical decision would be making the coop yourself. You still have the option to purchase a pre-built chicken coop, but remember that if you build a chicken coop using the guide that will be at just a fraction of the cost of buying a pre-built one.

Tow major features of an easy to follow guide to build a chicken coop are: “No Fancy Tools Required” and anyone with basic tools like a handsaw, hammer, drill etc can build the coops using the plans in the guide. “Easy To Build Plans” that enables everyone to do the task with easy to follow cross-sectional diagrams that include exact dimensions and required materials.

Why are you still waiting?! go and start building your own chicken coop.

If you are contemplating building a chicken coop, you can follow the steps in this article to help in making your project a success.

How to Build Chicken Coops – Design

Look at some existing chicken coop plans to help with ideas, then commence with ideas, then start with a rough you need to layout your coop, and have some colors in mind you would like to use for the walls and roof. Clearly the area surrounding the best chicken coops should be well landscaped to enhance the general appearance of the coop.

Some Vital Factors to take into consideration

You will have to maintain and clean the coop structure so you want to use materials which will allow for an easy cleaning process. The windows in place should be flat, sliding windows to prevent your chickens from roosting on the windows. The floors should be slightly sloped toward the door so you can hose the floor and have the runoff escape the coop without puddling.

When going thru the process of how to build chicken coops you may prepare the construction correctly to protect your chickens from rough weather, potential predators, and theft. First off the grounds the chicken coop is constructed on should be at a relatively high location and well drained to prevent dampness. Making certain the chicken coop has some exposure to the sun will help keep it dry after a rain shower. To protect your chickens from predators, you must bury chicken wire all around the coop about one foot deep to keep them from digging underneath it. The chicken coop should also have doors and sliding windows that may be opened or closed as needed, and they should have correct screening systems in place such as heavy gauge mesh wire that will not break and will keep predators like cats and foxes out should they happen to get past the chicken wire.

Coop Lighting and Ventilation

The walls of the chicken coop should be correctly insulated in cold climates as well. Good lighting will also help your chickens produce better eggs year-round.

Food and Water

Your chicken feeders and waterers should be easily accessible for your chickens but should be placed a little above ground to help keep the coop less messy. Feeders and areas where there is some food build up will have to be intermittently cleaned. Clean water should be provided during the day to help keep the chickens healthy and hydrated.
